Oh, being pregnant changes a person. Two things have happened this week that make me say this.

The first is this: I have entered the strange and confusing world of prams!

Mr B and I were sitting in a cafe eating lunch yesterday when it occurred to us both  that we had reached a whole new level of sad. We are trying to choose a pram at the moment and whilst you may think that this is an easy thing to do, it is harder than it may at first seem. I mean, a pram is a pram is a pram, right? Much of a muchness, surely? Ah yes, that’s what I thought until recently too. But how wrong I was. Whilst sitting eating our lunch we both started craning our necks to look at prams being pushed down the street. “Ooooh that’s nice” I say. Ross would nod in agreement and comment on the ease of steering. Oh yes, we both now have opinions on prams. It was at this point that we realised that whilst in mothercare the previous day we had actually been stalking people ’round the shop, peering over shelves, trying to figure out what make of pram they had! Before I was pregnant I honestly had no opinion on prams, but now, oh now Ross and I could talk for literally hours on the potential benefits of a lightweight frame and a large shopping basket and different size and number of wheels and the ability to make it lie flat. It’s honestly more interesting than you’d think. What a strange old world it is. After our trip to mothercare we both really like the Bugaboo Gecko (in red – very importantly), but to be honest it is a little pricey. We also liked the Silver Cross 3D, which is more of your bog standard pram, more reasonably priced than the bugaboo, but I have read some very bad reviews. We’ll see. I think we’ll be making our purchase in the next few weeks.

The second strange thing that has happened this week is that I have started spending time playing with my belly.

The little bean has started kicking even more strongly now and Ross and I have started staring with absolute fascination as my belly moves and wobbles and jolts about. It’s so strange but also really, really cool. I am playing a little game at the moment where I prod my belly and he kicks back (it might be coincidence but I like to think not). Ross says, and I have to admit its true, that it looks just a little bit like that scene from alien. But without the alien. It does make me very excited to meet the little fella though. A bit petrified, but very excited indeed.
